Office. They were received by us in the usual way and after

they were seated, Mr. Li Kai Hi, who is a member of the Society

said he and his comrades would like to again go into the

question of the friction between Tai Koo and the Cantonese

poeple, in connection with the Fatshan tragedy. He said it was

impossible for the Society to come to terms with Tai Ko4, unless

we agreed to give a tea party at which the British and Fortuned ones

-guese Consuls at Canton should attend. If we would persuade

these two gentlemen to attend, they would do their part in get-

-ting the Viceroy to accept an invitation. "We are desired by
